🦡 Fiat Grande Punto Alternator Problems

Out this afternoon and the charge light came on for about 5 secs accompanied by a grinding/whirring noise. I assumed it was just the belt slipping as all appeared fine for the remainder of the journey home, say 5 mins max. When i start the car the battery light still comes on and the steering is heavy. When i restart the car a few time the battery light goes back out and the steering returns to normal is there a fix to this problem? One way to test the cable is to bypass it with a pair of jump leads - one from the battery negative to the engine block and another from the engine block to the chassis - then try starting the car. Same thing happened on my 07 grande punto reversed up driveway and left car for 3 week while I went away on holiday got back loads of smoke and squealing. When I opened my bonnet alternator belt had snapped my alternator had seized and one of the tensioners had seized from rubbish weather and design fault. Well took the battery off the gp last night to put on charge had good voltage in and was showing nearly full on the gauge, left it over night and put it in this morning. The only thing that came with the car was a pile of receipts for a new clutch, battery, starter motor, alternator belt and exhaust. Jul 29, 2014. #6. Good news, alternator changed and all problems have gone away. Pretty easy to do tbh, took 2 hours ish as I took my time. Hardest part was getting the new aux belt back on! Removed the air con compressor to get access to the top bolt, cant see how it could have been done in situ tbh. To be completely frank with you, I am not sure if it is an original Fiat Denso alternator - will have to check my paperwork tonight. Tried the revving suggestion but unfortunately the issue still occurs. My MOT is due at the end of this week so I will ask them to look at the Earth Straps whilst it is in for MOT, to see if this is the problem. TBH I have always thought that a car would run without an alternator running,not for long mind as its the alternator charging the battery. So if the battery is fully charged the car should runHappy to be wrong tho..:) Yes that's exactly what happens car ran for couple hours with new yV76x.
